Stories of Food & Faith in the Valley

Seventh and eighth grade students at the Hilltown Cooperative Charter Public School will be reading stories from their cookbook, THE THINGS THAT FEED US: STORIES OF FOOD AND FAITH FROM THE PIONEER VALLEY, created as part of their study of the world’s religions.

Students researched the question, “Why do people practice religion?” by interviewing people from many faiths and backgrounds in the Pioneer Valley. As they collected stories, they realized that food has a central role in many people’s faiths, and they also gained a deeper understanding of the rich diversity of beliefs represented where we live. Students compiled the stories and recipes into a cookbook and illustrated them with thematic pen and ink borders.
